Finding some peace
The first work after returning from the funeral came out looking like spring after a hard winter. I took this painting to be framed before I took a picture of it, so I leaned it up against my car and took this shot with my phone. I chose a floating black frame … one I like to use on my work.
Painting a bit of hope
I hope that my Mom found some peace after all the suffering. I think that painting is a form of expression of what’s inside that can’t find words. I started with a light green on the canvas and then let the colors fall through the layers of blues, greens, browns and purples. Although it has been foggy often lately, I have been painting a bit of spring color on my canvases. This one is 18×24, which is large enough to create complexity.
Thanks for stopping by …
I love the feedback on WordPress and I also like visiting other sites. I have been checking out a lot of travel blogs as I thought about where to go. I booked a flight to Lisbon in December. After reading so much about it on other blogs, I thought it would be a good place to go right now. If you know of any great art galleries there, please let me know. I know there will be plenty of good food and melancholy music. I’m sure it will inspire new work.

I’m so sorry for your loss. This must be a hard time in your life. Your paintings are so beautiful, and must help you to express your emotions that can’t find words yet.
Trish, I love this. A fitting memorial for your Mum. I also poured out my feelings, but in a poem, when my Mum went home after a long time of suffering. You can see it on my blog: http://kiwis-soar.com/2012/03/26/jeannie-a-remembrance/
Thanks for the like on my blog!
It is good to have an outlet for our emotions – I write songs as my outlet. It is good to get it out and scream in our own little way.
My condolences on your loss. No matter our age, when we lose a parent we all feel as orphans. Thank you for sharing your art. It is a lovely piece.
So sorry to hear of your loss. the painting is beautiful.
Your art is beautiful and it touches my heart. Sorry for your loss.
Absolutely beautiful
This is gorgeous! Love the color combination! What a lovely tribute.
A very soothing painting…like blue waters on canvas. Moving and still. Magical.
It’s fascinating you chose such a clear bright palate for this work – speaking of renewal and life. That’s as it should be, of course, in the circle of life, and a trip, also, to discover new worlds, new ideas and art seems a perfect way to move from this time of sadness into the next phase of your life. Best wishes
It is a splended picture. I look forward to the next blog
simply wonderful
A moving story and a piece of work with great meaning.
I am sorry for your Mom. She will follow admiring your work..Like all of us!Enjoy December in Lisbon, and take care of yourself!
Trish, As I was looking at this painting and the one in your previous blog, I was reminded of works by other painters. The colours and shapes in this one reminded me of Monet’s paintings of the lily pond in his garden. Whilst the bright yellow spiky shape in your earlier post, reminded me of Van Gogh’s sun flowers.
I agree that making art enables people to express feelings that can be difficult to put into words. Art can be very healing during difficult times.
I love the painting! In a previous comment, someone likened it to Van Gogh’s Sun Flowers. To be honest, I first thought of Starry Night. Have you been to Arles? The Van Gogh Museum is something I think you would enjoy. At best, While I do push a brush around a bit, there is no training, talent… Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mother. Here is a quote I should like to leave you with: “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” – Leonardo da Vinci
Thanks for visiting one of my blogs.

i’m sorry for your loss. if there’s any consolation, your mom’s in a better place now.
Thank you – what a comparison (-: I’ve spent a lot of hours staring at Van Gogh and Monet’s work in different art museums… I love their work.
I do find painting to be a great way to release what I feel. I know my Mom loved art and probably would have been an artist herself with the right encouragement. She had artistic vision.
Thank you … Your quote is so true. I write poetry, too, but could not write for the year. I will have to visit the Van Gogh museum… I always try to imagine what he felt as he painted…
I checked out your post… thank you for sharing that – I have more ideas about where to go!
great. you may want to read about fernando pessoa, the Portuguese poet. I think you’ll like his poems. you can start here:
